New Sony Readers

Sony Reader Message Board

Sony now has upgraded their 3 readers the Pocket Edition – PRS-300 is now PRS-350, Touch Edition – PRS-600 is now PRS-650, and Daily Edition – PRS-900 is now PRS-950.

Sony has updated all 3 reader lines. Sony has completely moved to touchscreen for all 3 reader lines. They are using a new touch technology call optical touchscreens, speeding up page turns with E Ink Pearl displays and slimming down the brushed aluminum hardware.

The touch screens on all 3 readers are completely new technology from the previous versions. They are using Neonode´s optical touch screen technology that has been customized for Sony. Neonode’s patented touch screen technology, zForce, supports high resolution pen writing in combination with market leading finger navigation including gestures, multi-touch, sweeps and much more. zForce™ uses no overlay (like resistive and capacitive touch screens) on top of the e-ink display thus creating a 100% clear window free from reflexes and parallax effects and produces a true paper like experience.

Summary:
* Even though Sony went touch with all the readers, they chose not to add wireless to both the Pocket & Touch Editions. For the Daily Edition, both wifi & 3G will be available.

* They are using optical touchscreens on all 3 models. That means faster page turns and very sensitive to touch

* They are using the new Pearl display for sharper pictures

* New features allow for easier reading of PDF or personal documents. Intuitive content zoom, adjustable contrast and brightness control, as well as automatic multiple page creation will make documents designed for a standard sheet of paper easier to read on a smaller screen. Also, personalized standby screen options will allow users to use their favorite photos as a screen saver and the collections functionality will allow them to group their favorite reads.

* In addition, the new Reader line is more global than ever, offering users the ability to look up words and phrases with the built in New Oxford American Dictionary, Second Edition and Oxford Dictionary of English eDictionaries, as well as 10 translation dictionaries in languages such as French, German, Spanish, Italian and Dutch. Wordsmiths across the globe can now create “word logs” to track the words they’ve looked up per dictionary, book or periodical in chronological order, while quickly switching between dictionaries.

* Reader Pocket Edition / PRS-350 ($179) (Silver & Pink)

* Reader Touch Edition / PRS-650 ($229) (Black & Red)
